The MLB Mets’ five-year contract with iHeartMedia's WOR 710 AM is up at the end of the upcoming season and The NY Daily News thinks the team may go shopping for a new outlet.
Enter Entercom Inc., which now owns seven NYC radio Stations, including WCBS 880 AM and WINS 1010 AM.
WOR-AM pays the Mets about $8 million per year for radio rights.
But a new partnership with the Mets would give Entercom a stranglehold on the New York baseball market, which would be advantageous when it comes to selling advertising. However, the Daily News reports Entercom is not losing money on the Yankees contract.
That could lead the Entercom suits to stay away from adding another baseball property in the same market. Time will tell.
