DC Radio: Report..WRQX To Drop The Bert Show

Bert Weiss appears to be out at WRQX 107.5 FM Hits.

DCRTV is reporting the Bert Weiss morning show will be gone from Cumulus's All The Hits 107.3, WRQX, after this Friday.

PM Drive personality Marco reportedly will be moved into mornings on an "interim" basis with a "music-intensive" show.

Marco
A search is underway for Weiss's replacement, but he stresses that the new show will be "locally-based" and not piped-in from elsewhere, like Weiss's show.

Weiss got added to WRQX just about a year ago, following the firing of longtime morning man Jack Diamond. Since then, Weiss, who was once part of Diamond's show crew, has failed to generate any ratings traction in the Washington market. Weiss's show often fails to crack the top 20 ratings in mornings, while Diamond's was a solid top 10 performer.

  1. I think getting rid of The Bert Show is a huge mistake!! They were lively, fresh and each morning I listened, they had tons of people calling in. What a shame; I won't be tuning back in. To the Bert Show cast, the very best of luck - you are the best morning show I've heard in some time!!! You guys ROCK!!

    3. I am happy the idiotic conversations are gone. Jack was okay but a bit preachy. Bert was low class. More music in the morning is a good thing- but you have changed your standards a lot; I don't like all rap. But for now I am happy to listen during my new station's commercial breaks. Glad you have more music and less stupid conversation.

    4. What is this poo poo on the radio now? 35 years and now it is Detroit.

      Time for 92.5 FM

    5. You can be excused for not understanding the economics of business (especially radio): fewer listeners = low revenue. Why would you keep employing someone who is not making you money? You as one person liking him is not justification.

    6. Should have NEVER gotten rid of Jack Diamond. When Jack was fired I left as a listener. Found Burt and his crew gross and sophomoric most of the time. Gave up on him shortly after he arrived.

    1. I totally agree. I have been a listener of 107.3 since I moved to Maryland in 1980; but, I will be finding another station all together. I loved the JDMS and enjoyed The Bert Show. I find 107.3 now stale and vanilla and I detest that the same playlist is just rerun throughout the day. Thanks for the memories, but See Ya Later.

    2. Totally agree!! I'm not even really a Country fan, but I listen to Bobby Bones (is that right?lol) now...no more 107.3 drama for me. Maybe they need new Management...not new Talent!!!

  3. I'm sad that The Bert Show left DC. It was such a great show. I was really getting into it and it made my morning commute so much nicer. I am going to find another morning show to listen to and it won't be on 107.3.

    1. I agree - the Bert Show was okay - The Jack Diamond Morning Show was better. I didn't care for the trivial, negative pettiness that the The Bert Show would focus on. Although the JDMS could be a little hum drum, at least he was always kind and genuine. I met Jack a few times, he was as sincere in person as he came across on the air. He was a true class act and I miss him being on the radio. The Bert Show always had that "Stabbed in the back" feel, since he and Jack had been partners and ran a great show! Back then, they were the best show on the air! Separately, they didn't do as well, but the JDMS was far better than the Bert Show. I hope he comes back on the air soon, we miss him.

  5. I will certainly miss listening to The Bert Show each morning on the way to work. It was fun, fresh and upbeat and always held my attention....looks like I will be searching for a new station on the morning...I wish everyone the best of luck!!!!

  6. I am so sad that I won't get to hear Bert and Jeff and Kristin on my ride into work anymore. They were funny, smart, sincere, sensitive. It is a huge loss. Now I'll be regular listener to Bobby Bones. 107.3 - you blew it.

  7. Terrible, terrible decision! Best morning show I've heard in a long, long time. Bye bye, 107.3 - I'll listen to The Bert Show online.

    1. Totally agree. I listened to Jack Diamond and the Bert show was ok too. I've changed my radio station now. Nothing against the guy who has the morning slot but that is NOT morning music to me. I don't want loud/party music with my coffee and morning commute. He's better suited to evening or late night.

  11. The Bert show was a terrible fit for this market. They focused too much on their Southern-ness, which probably works fine in Atlanta, but leaves a lot of DC listeners alienated. I hope the new person is local.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Thank you thank you thank you for getting rid of the Bert show. While they tried to clean up their act you still had to worry about kristin talking about her raging thighs or something else inappropriate. Really want a local show that can talk about things going on around here. Okay to bring Jack back, he desperately wants to come back.

    1. Thank you Tricia - I couldn't agree with you more! I gave The Bert Show an honest try - grudgingly at first, but I sincerely tried to like it. I just couldn't. Jack ran a good show. It could've been better, I was crazy about the crew towards the end, I prefer a positive, lively crew. Jimmy could be too negative, and Ally talked about stuff that I couldn't relate too, just silly stuff. Bring back Jack! Talk about local stuff, interesting issues, opinions on current controversies, music, entertainment and the big happenings in the news. Leave the petty stuff to lesser stations. But please, bring back Jack! He is a great radio personality, a kind of "pillar" of the community (the DC community) and an institution to the listeners of this area! I've been listening to him since I was a kid in high school and now I've got kids graduating from high school. Love Jack! Bring him back!

  13. Bad decision. I really enjoyed the Bert Show and it made my commute much more enjoyable. I will be removing 107.3 from my presets. Waiting for the Bert Show to come back listening this week, there had to be a 20-minute stretch of commercials. Terrible radio now -- who is going to listen to that??

  14. One abrupt cancellation too many for this long time listener I will not be listening to 107.3 on my ride to work any longer.

  15. Jack Diamond gone without a word, Bert and crew gone without a word. Both shows were the best! Bert, Kristin and Jeff were fresh, new and current and they will be greatly missed. Will not be giving 107.3 another listen! Moving on!

  16. You people at Cumulus have lost your minds. The Jack Diamond morning show.....GONE. The Bert Show now GONE as well. I listened to Jack Diamond since late 1990, so 23 years of loyalty GONE out the window. Since then I have been listening to the Bert Show. Because it was a completely different type of show, it took some getting used to, but I have really been enjoying it. So now another year of 107.3 loyalty GONE. We are left with an unknown DJ, who doesn't even identify himself on air and just plays REALLY bad music. This just isn't going to cut it. Where did Carson on the evening show go? Now there's still Brook Ryan, but she is just wasting her talent only playing the same horrible songs that the morning DJ does. The "Mix" of songs was much better then the current "Hits". This is such a disaster. Good luck with your ratings now. Hello Chilli Amar and Loo Katz on Wash FM 97.1! Looking forward to catching up and hearing you guys again, since you both left 107.3 as well.

    1. Yes, I do like Chili & Loo. They need to get someone from the DC area who knows what they're doing to run this station. Apparently, someone far removed, and out of touch with DC listeners is running the show.

      Delete
    2. Yes, it is the management at Cumulus that is broken, not the morning DJs! They don't understand the most fundamental concept that morning listeners (esp. commuters) bond with the DJs. I thought the way they dumped Jack Diamond was abominable. Bert won my respect the day he spent the show talking about his affection for Jack Diamond and his discomfort at how it was all handled. Then he gets canned. I too have reprogrammed all car radios to delete 107.3. Nothing there.

  17. Should have left well enough alone. I was a faithful Jack Diamond fan & hated the Bert show. Got used to Bert. Now they're gone. Hate the new music format that's playing now. Bring Jack Diamond & crew back & go back to the music format you used to have. There are enough of the rap stations in the area

  18. Bring back Jack Diamond & company & please go back to the music format you had before (a mix of the old & new). Really should have left well enough alone. 20. Bring back Jack Diamond & company. I looked forward to listening to them on my commute. Please change the music format back to your mix of old and new. This music format is awful!! 25. This stinks - loved Jack, loved Bert show. I pipe into the Bert Show live, who cars that they did it from another state! Goodbye 107.3

    ReplyDelete
  26. With no disrespect to anyone - a blind, deaf, mute person could tell the past 1.5 years at Mix107 has been the definition of "train wreck." To be honest, when you cut Jack Diamond loose, I left. People may talk good and well of little Bert but little Bert did what no one in any profession does: he allowed a "friend" to be stabbed in the back and then stepped in to reap the rewards. Bad karma has a way of following deserving people.
The "suits" at the control need a collective lobotomy: what the hell were they (not) thinking? For all of DC transient persona it actually is a collection of small towns residents that live here for years. If we wanted to hear news from Atlanta, or somewhere else, we would go there - the interest for true DC area residents is - wait for it - DC... as in Duh!
If the "suits" are smart, they will negotiate with Jack to bring his show back - but beware this will be a tentative return for many of his listeners. You "suits" thought we were all dumb as pond scum, you could re-arrange things, and we'd remain clueless and listen. Well we aren't and we didn't. One way or the other people have moved on... if Jack show does come back it has to be on terms that he can live with - and we can believe in. Once burned, twice shy... but beware of smoldering cinders, too.

  32. Such a shame, I had to do a google search to find this out when all I heard was music for the past week in the mornings. What's another good and intelligent morning show? I cannot stand Kane and his crew. All the bits and topics are soft and Kane just comes off as a big wimp in everything he says. Intern Jon or whatever is a classless tool. Time to invest in Sirius/XM I guess.

  35. Too late for this listener, but 107.3 station owners need to learn some very basic customer service skills. Appreciate your customers, keep them informed, treat them with respect. Guess we have to pay for that now. I'm going with Sirius.

  37. I was surprised when they canned Jack Diamond, but he was a self-centered ass a lot of the time. However, Bert and company were just boring. I hated their stupid call-ins with voice disguiser. I have XM radio, but prefer to listen to FM in the morning for local stuff. I really liked Brooke when she was part of morning show. Give her a shot at mornings!

  38. Bring back Jack Diamond, he had an intelligent show. I never liked the Bert show, too much talk about body issues (fat/short/tall/skinny) and trying too hard to be appeal to the HOT99.5 audience with raunchiness, etc.

    1. I am glad Bert Weiss is gone because he didn't seem to get the information on what should be said on radio in this area. Enough about body parts, what they do and the call-ins and what those people did. Who cares? Bring Jack back. His show was safe for kids to listen to - never any vulgar words allowed. I tuned in briefly and was shocked at what I listened to and had to check to see if the dial said 107.3. I went to the oldies station.

  39. Loved the Jack Diamond show - you should bring it back - tried the Bert show but agree with others it got a little racy for driving kids to school, and not being local didn't get a local vibe. Hate the new music list - I am changing station for good this time.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I just wish the station would have the common courtesy to let listeners know what is going on. When Jack Diamond was fired, they just scrubbed the website of all reference to him with no explanation. Now the Bert Show discontinuation has been handled the same way, getting rid of all mention of the show with no explanation. That's just poor customer service and evidence of bad management. I'm finding another station.

  41. I can now count on the same 5 or 6 songs being played over and over again. It's too bad The Bert Show was dropped. Even an old curmudgeon like me found it to be a refreshing change. After 20+ years of being a loyal listener time to wipe 107.3 from my radio settings.

  43. After listening to the Jack Diamond Show for its entire run, I tuned out the Bert Show after a few weeks. 46. I am in the same boat as many other posts - I was a loyal Jack Diamond listener for 23 years. I got used to The Bert show and came to enjoy it and now both are gone. I haven't yet been able to find a station that I enjoy. I like the banter in the mornings, it makes the commute less painful. 107.3 - you've lost a loyal listener - but I think that is your goal - you want to get rid of all of us "old" listeners. Your new music format is awful.

  47. Big mistake. I stopped listening to the Jack Diamond show shortly after Bert was forced out years ago. I was so glad to have him back and loved the show. It really made my morning commute. Perhaps the station should have given the show more time, support, and advertising. I won't be listening to this station again.

  48. The Jack & Bert Show, back in the day was by far, the BEST show on the air! It was hilarious, had me laughing every single morning, to the point of tears! When Bert left, it wasn't quite as good. Jack and Bert balanced each other out. Jack is a sincerely sweet guy, but can be a little too soft and mushy. Bert is just the opposite, so they balanced each other out. Without Jack, I find Bert to be too mean-spirited, petty and sensationalistic. Together, they were a phenomenal team with a phenomenal show! But if I had to choose only one, I'd choose Jack 200% over Bert. Jack is kind, interesting and more focused on issues that concern the DC area and its listeners. We don't want a show from another city that focuses on stupid, irrelevant topics that DC could care less about. Bring Jack back with a better team that is funny, intelligent and witty, but not whiny please! Some of the later interns that joined the show are the reason I listened to Jack less - their silly, whiny issues are not something I want to hear about on my way to work. I want news, humor, good music, interesting commentary and traffic and weather reports, delivered by a friendly, fun, kind group of people. That's it! That doesn't seem like too much to ask, does it? So bring back Jack, help him find a good group of competent, somewhat seasoned individuals to do it - and BAM! You'll have a successful show on your hands once again!

  49. I was annoyed with the Bert Show. They repeated the stories every hour. Whoever comes into the morning show also needs to get a MUCH better playlist, I know there are more than 10 songs out there. Check out The Tides radio 92.3 in Williamsburg. Great playlist (too many commericials), but here's a quarter, buy a clue. Work on the music!

  51. I loved both the Jack Diamond Show AND the Bert Show. Both fun, upbeat, funny, great way to start the morning here in DC. Why do you keep cancelling and why don't you give the listeners a heads up why you're doing it and when you plan to do it?? Not very professional.

  54. I grew up here and listening to the Jack Diamond show was part of my life. It is now a year later and I still feel very angry about the sudden loss of a great morning radio program. His morning lineup of Jimmy, Ally, Brooke, Stacey and others will be missed forever. I even removed 107.3 from my programming dial in protest after listening for 24 years. The morning drive has just not been the same over the last year. I am a true fan Jack and will never go back to 107.3 as long as you are not there. 58. That is just a shame. I love the Bert Show and did not care for the Jack Diamond. In fact, I stopped listening to the Jack and Bert show after Bert left. I thought the Bert cast was just on vacation or something!!! Come to find out after I googled it that they were cancelled! 1. I agree completely! I used to wake up to Jack & Bert every morning, and had 107.3 as my number one preset for my morning commute. The times that I rented a car when mine was in the shop, I reprogrammed 107.3 on all my rental cars! But after Bert left, the show went downhill. Jack was so full of himself, and the other people were fake and annoying. I stopped listening when I got tired of Ally's whiney voice. When I discovered the Bert show, I gave it a chance and it really grew on me...even though the show was not local, they were so fresh and entertaining! I had not been hooked on a morning show for a long time, but yes I LOVED it! Some of their stunts were kooky, but overall the show was lively and entertaining. I really liked the call ins where they tried to help people solve their problems. I actually looked forward to waking up to hear what the Bert show was going to do that day! They deserve an A+ in my book. And the music mix was really good - both old and new. I went on vacation for 2 weeks and when I came back I did not hear Bert in the morning. I thought someone must have changed my radio station from 107.3. Oh, it is on 107.3, well, then they must be on vacation... after two weeks of bad music and boring DJ...went to the website with no mention of a change...googled it - and HELLO! The Bert show has been cancelled. I am so upset! I have tried listening to this new show but I don't like the music, nor DJ. TOTALLY BORING! I miss Bert - please bring his show back! I am disappointed that 107.3 had a great thing like the Bert show - better than any of the other stations morning shows around - and they dumped it. Bad move. The station managers should have given it another year to catch on. I'm reprogramming all my radios - needless to say my old favorite 107.3 is not included.

  63. 107.3 is a total train wreck now. I had listened to Jack Diamond and his crew since he had Stacey Binn on (or even before that). Jack Diamond is an amazing DJ and radio personality, and it made my horrific commute from Frederick to DC tolerable in the mornings. The morning show made me laugh every day and I felt like I had a connection with everyone on that show. When they got rid of Jack Diamond morning show with NO send off or warnings, I was shocked. And when I heard Bert come back on with his crew I was like NO Can Do!! I thought it was trashy at first, cheap talk and Berts voice still annoyed me! (remember it from when he and Jack were together) I swore I wouldn't listen to the Bert Show and tried other stations, which I hated. After getting sucked in and listened to Bert a few times, I gave them a chance, and actually started liking it. Jeff is hilarious and reminds me of Jack Black. Christin seems to be fairly personable and funny, and Bert I tolerate. But low and behold I turned on the radio one morning and THEY're gone, with no send off message, or anything! I have no idea what kind of crap they're running now in the mornings because it's all just music, commercials and random talking from who I don't even know. It's completely aawful!!!! So I listen to Chili and Lou, which is fair.......What happened to Carson too? 107.3 has lost a lot of listeners....the only way I'd come back to listen is if Jack came back and I doubt they could pay him enough after what they did to him!

  64. I was a JDMS loyal listener for over 20 years and was not only devastated when they were cancelled but how listeners were given little to no notice when it happened. I gave the Bert Show a good six month trial period and just could not make a connection. From time to time I could tolerate them but more often than not found myself wishing Jack Diamond was still on the air. I have since tuned into WTOP for my morning commute. If the powers that be were smart they would beg Jack Diamond to come back and hire a program manager who has a wider music base than just top 40 and hip hop pablum. There is so much fantastic music being made today but all the radio stations in the DC area do is play what music corperation heads want them to play so the next "Big" thing/artist can be made. But I digress and that is an argument for another day. The crux of this text, BRING BACK JACK!

  65. hated the Bert Show. That crew was always trying to bring sex into it and relationship issues. just not the topics that moms and dads want to listen to with kids in the car. Jack was pretty Vanilla but i had no problem with his show. They should bring him back.

  66. No warning, no explanation given to listeners. I had to come to this web site to confirm what I suspected. The radio is now boring in the morning: just music and commercial ! Another fine example where 'skilled management' is playing a major role in the demise of a company.

  67. I am surprised his show lasted this long. Boring. Bert sure seemed to be absent a lot. The other two were actually good and should break out on their own.

  68. He talked too much. I want music when I listen to the radio.

  69. Bert was upset when Jimmy Alexander came south to compete with him, he went on record saying so. Then he stepped into the DC show after Jack, his friend and co-worker, was let go! Sounds like a case of Karma to me....

  74. Oh Please! Don't bring Jack back. He was boring, patronizing, out of touch with women, and that's just the beginning. I tuned him off early on. Jimmy was funny, even Chilli when she started. Bert was the anti-Jack. Young, dynamic, sexy and often not there... ring a bell? The path of a good radio station with a too old management team. What to do? what to do? Keep looking people! there's lot's of new formats out there, just don't keep what you have right now. What's there sucks and should be terminated. I've been listening to 107 since it was Q107 (put years there!) and this is unacceptable. Too bad there seems to be no better station out there. There's a reason why most of us are turning to our own playlists or Pandora or other internet radios. Wake up Clearwater! you are in deep doo doo. Pretty soon it's gonna be bye-bye for you too.

  75. I stopped listening to 107.3 after a heard a few shows with Bert. I found him downright repulsive as were his sidekicks. I am by no means a prude, but some of the stuff they spoke about and their vulgar remarks were very distasteful. Glad he is gone. Would prefer Jack Diamond who was obviously a more educated personality than Bert!

  76. Thank GOD they're gone. I only tuned in when there was music playing. The sound of their voices and faint accents topped of with the nonsense they spoke about felt like listening to nails on a chalkboard to me! Love Sarah and Mel from 99.5 - best wishes to them!

  77. Glad Bert and crew are gone. To think it was smart to bring in a syndicated show from Atlanta to a market like DC was idiotic.

  78. Congratulations, Cumulus, on your great all time low current rating of 1.9 at WRQX! Hope all of the changes over the past couple of years has been worth it to you, for one of the lowest ratings across the board. Could you please wake up now? If you can't bring back The Jack Diamond Morning Show or The Bert Show, then at least get rid of the current mess you are airing and bring in something enjoyable and fresh....perhaps another morning show with current popular music, not rap, or whatever the crazy stuff you're playing now?

  79. I've been living at the beach since early April 2014 and just got back. I looked forward to getting back to the music on 107.3. I had trouble finding a station I really liked at the beach. Well, I tuned in on my drive back and thought "What is this!?? What happened??" I tried to listen today as well, and thought "maybe MIX 107.3 moved???" so I looked up this website to see what happened (and hoping it would tell me where my radio station moved to...) Now I'm really bummed. Evidently my music didn't move....it's just gone. That's awful! and I still don't understand WHY? I liked Jack Diamond....back when I commuted, I listened to him every morning. In recent years I haven't been commuting--or listening--to any station in the mornings...but just turning in to hear music it was clear in the first song, then 2 songs....that this wasn't my radio station. Goodbye. I guess I'll start looking for a new station that plays music I actually like....or at least can tolerate. It's too bad. If you ever get it together again, I hope I hear about it. I guess if I hear Jack Diamond is coming back that'll be a clue that you are either coming to your senses or have finally been replaced by better management.
