L-A Radio: KLOS Now Frosty Free

On Monday, The Frosty, Heidi and Frank morning show on KLOS 95.5 FM announced that Frosty Stilwell was “furloughed” on Friday. KLOS is owned by Meruelo Media.

During the show on Monday, which airs weekdays from 6 a.m.-10 a.m., Heidi Hamilton and Frank Kramer, revealed on-air that Stilwell was being furloughed due to “decreased advertiser revenue” amid the spread of coronavirus, according to several Twitter posts from listeners who tuned in.

The LA Daily News reports some were quick to draw comparisons to the firing of fellow Los Angeles radio personality Kevin Ryder of KROQ 106.7 FM’s The Kevin & Bean Show and Kevin in the Morning with Allie & Jensen, who was unexpectedly let go last week.

On March 19, Stilwell posted on his personal Facebook page that listeners had been asking if they’d continue to do the show and he replied that they’d be on-air as usual since it was his understanding that they were “one of the few exceptions allowed to do their thing in public as usual.”

“With a minimal staff in the studio, we will remain on the air until told otherwise from the powers that be,” he wrote. “Stay safe, all of you. You know we’re all in this together. All of us are sharing the same fears and worries, every one of us are feeling the awful bite of this thing.”

The show has moved around stations throughout the years. Originally called just “Frosty and Frank,” the show started in 1994 and ultimately it found its footing at Star. 98.7 FM in Los Angeles in 1998.

After adding Hamilton and moving from Star in 1999, the Frosty, Heidi & Frank Show debuted on 97.1 FM. After a few years, the gang signed off there; Hamilton and Kramer started The Heidi & Frank Show on KLOS in 2012 and were finally reunited with Stilwell in 2016.
