Radio, television and digital news organizations may now submit reporting in a new Podcast category, which will accept either single episodes or compilations of digital audio files made available on the internet for downloading to a computer or mobile device, typically available as a series, new installments of which can be received by subscribers automatically.

“RTDNA has been proud to present the most prestigious awards in broadcast and digital news since 1971, and we look forward to continuing to honor the best-of-the-best as news formats evolve,” says RTDNA Executive Director Dan Shelley, who previously served on the Board of Directors as Chairman of the Awards Committee. “It’s more important than ever to uphold and honor the legacy of Edward R. Murrow.”
The updated Murrow Awards imprints retain the iconic profile of the awards’ namesake with a refreshed, modern look. Winners will receive updated promotion guidelines following the regional and national winner announcements this spring.
The entry period for the 2020 Murrow Award competition, including professional and student divisions, will open on Thursday, December 12. The deadline to submit entries for consideration is midnight Pacific time on Friday, February 14. Entries submitted by February 6 automatically receive a $10 off early-bird discount.
Murrow Award hopefuls will notice improvements to the award submission process, including a simplified sign up and the ability to submit partial payments. Entrants are also encouraged to check the complete rules for additional updates, including updated category descriptions, link requirements and time limits for some categories.
RTDNA is also accepting applications for experienced journalists and news managers to judge this year’s awards competition.
