Ronnie Platt of Kansas Reveals Cancer Diagnosis

Ronnie Platt is brushing off his cancer diagnosis as a minor setback, reassuring fans it won’t keep him down for long.

The 62-year-old Kansas frontman revealed on Facebook Saturday that he’s been diagnosed with thyroid cancer but urged followers not to panic. “Before anyone freaks out, it’s got a 99% survival rate and hasn’t spread,” Platt wrote. “It’s just in my thyroid. I’ll get it removed, take some time to recover, and be back rocking in no time.”

He added, “I’ve got an incredible team in my corner! Like they’ve told me, this is just a speed bump—I’ll put it in the rearview soon. So everyone, just keep on carrying on!”

The news follows Kansas’ decision last week to push back two Oklahoma gigs “due to band illness and doctor’s orders.” A Feb. 14 show in Catoosa is now set for Nov. 21, and a Feb. 15 date in Durant is rescheduled for Nov. 22. “We’re sorry for the hassle and can’t wait to hit the stage again soon,” the band posted on Instagram.

After Platt went public with his condition, Kansas announced Tuesday it’s scrapping a March 1 concert in Lake Charles, Louisiana, again pointing to illness within the group. A Feb. 21 New Orleans show has also been axed.
