CNN's Collins Deletes Post Promoting Alleged Killer's Defense Fund

Kaitlan Collins, CNN's chief White House correspondent, has come under fire after posting a link on X to a defense fund website for Luigi Mangione, the alleged killer of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Collins later deleted the post amid criticism from users on the social media platform, according to Fox News Digital.

Mangione, 26, faces charges of first-degree murder, terrorism, stalking, and other state and federal offenses in New York and Pennsylvania related to the December 4, 2024 shooting of Thompson, a married father of two, in Manhattan. Born into a wealthy Maryland family, Mangione was apprehended on December 9 at a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania following a multi-state manhunt. Supporters have since donated over $300,000 for his legal defense.

The backlash to Collins' post was swift, with The Spectator contributing editor Stephen L. Miller calling it "bottom of the barrel stuff" and criticizing her for deleting it without explanation. WMAL 105.9 FM host Larry O'Connor accused Collins of using her large platform to promote the defense fund of a "cold-blooded killer" and noted that she has not apologized or posted anything in the 24 hours since. New York Times bestselling author Jack Posobiec also weighed in, pointing out that Mangione was shown on video murdering a man in cold blood.

Some X users have even called for Collins to lose her White House press credentials over the incident. The controversy has raised questions about the judgment of the prominent CNN reporter in appearing to promote the defense of an alleged murderer facing serious charges.
