‘Bourbon Street Hustler’ May Have Left Trail of Victims

Telemundo Report Adan Manzano, Danette Colbert

A woman dubbed the "Hustler of Bourbon Street," Danette Colbert, 48, from Slidell, Louisiana, has been arrested in connection with the death of Telemundo sports reporter Adan Manzano.

Authorities suspect she may be linked to a series of crimes targeting multiple victims, including at least one other fatality.

Colbert was apprehended on February 7 after surveillance video captured her leaving Manzano's hotel room in Kenner, Louisiana, where the rising star journalist from Telemundo Kansas City was covering the Super Bowl.

She allegedly used Manzano's credit card at various stores around New Orleans. Initially charged with property crimes such as bank fraud and theft, police now believe Colbert has a history of drugging and robbing men.

Several individuals have come forward with similar experiences:

  • Jason Egle, 50, a traveling nurse, claims Colbert posed as an Uber driver in October 2021, drugged him, and swapped his phone. Uber has no record of her employment.
  • Eric Maul reported to New Orleans police that Colbert, again posing as an Uber driver, stole his phone and thousands of dollars from his accounts in 2021. He received no follow-up from authorities.
  • John Jenkins, 55, was found unresponsive in a New Orleans hotel in December. While Colbert's name wasn't initially linked to his death, Kenner police now suspect her involvement.
  • David Butler, 52, accused Colbert of drugging and robbing him three years ago, nearly leaving him for dead. She was convicted in October 2024 of computer fraud, theft, and illegal transmission of monetary funds but received a suspended sentence, probation, and restitution instead of prison time.

Kenner police report that at least a dozen people have contacted them, claiming they or a loved one may have been victimized by Colbert, a career criminal. In Manzano's case, security footage showed Colbert entering his hotel room with him around 4 a.m. on Wednesday and leaving alone shortly after.
