During a Sunday interview on CNN, Trump border czar Tom Homan was confronted by Dana Bash about a potential quid pro quo with New York Mayor Eric Adams (D) that may have influenced the Department of Justice's decision to drop corruption charges against the mayor.
Bash directly asked Homan about his Thursday meeting with Adams, where the mayor announced that ICE agents would be granted access to the prison on Rikers Island, which Homan described as a "game changer." She pointed out that just days before this announcement, the Justice Department had instructed prosecutors to drop federal corruption charges against Adams, suggesting a possible exchange.
Homan dismissed the notion as "ridiculous," explaining that he had initially met with Adams a couple of months ago to discuss the Rikers Island collaboration and had followed up last week to inquire about the delay in implementing the agreement. He emphasized that their discussions never touched upon the Justice Department's actions, which he considered outside his purview.

Bash: "If Adams doesn’t do what you want, should the DOJ reopen its investigation?"
Homan: "I’m the Border Czar. I care about securing the border and removing public safety threats. Let the DOJ do… pic.twitter.com/eVVZ6ETAJ8
Despite Bash's insistence that the sequence of events appeared suspicious, especially given Homan's law enforcement background and his initial uncertainty about Adams' reluctance to open Rikers, Homan maintained that the two matters were unrelated. He stated that his primary goal was to secure Adams' assistance in addressing public safety threats while leaving immigration enforcement to his team. Homan expressed frustration that the follow-through on their initial meeting was slow, prompting the second meeting to determine what additional steps were needed. He concluded by suggesting that people were making a fuss over nothing.
