R.I.P.: John Walton, KPRC Houston Radio Host, Station Owner

John Walton of the regionally syndicated, Houston-based radio show "Walton and Johnson" died late Monday after a suffering from numerous medical issues, according to the Houston Chronicle citing an announcement from his co-host Steve Johnson.

The duo also aired mornings on iHeartMedias KPRC 950 AM.

Walton had been receiving treatment over the last month but continued to suffer, according to the announcement. He returned home Monday and spent his final hours with his family. He died around 11:55 p.m.

"He went out on his own terms," according to the announcement, which continued, "I will always cherish John as not only a partner but a dear friend. His wit and humor defined him as the unique individual we all knew him to be. He will never be replaced. He had a voice and he had something to say."

"Your loyalty and support for him and his craft was always a mutual sentiment. John cared deeply for all of you. He loved to make you all laugh."

The show first launched in February 1983 and currently has 16 affiliates throughout the south.
