TV Ratings: FNC Outpaces ABC And CBS In Weekday Primetime


FOX News Channel (FNC) ended the week of August 17th with nearly 2.4 million weekday primetime viewers and 212,000 viewers in the 25-54 demo, outpacing broadcast networks ABC (2.3 million viewers) and CBS (2 million viewers) according to Nielsen Media Research Big Data + Panel. 

In Monday–Sunday, FNC nabbed 2 million primetime viewers, surpassing CBS (1.9 million viewers), and 1.3 million viewers during total day. CBS Evening News (3,965,000 viewers) continued its downward trend, posting its third consecutive week under four million viewers. CNN delivered its lowest rated week of the year in total day, garnering only 412,000 viewers with FNC easily tripling this number. Additionally, MS Now saw its second lowest rated week of the year in total day in the 25-54 demo (48,000 viewers), the 25-54 demo in primetime (66,000 viewers), and primetime total viewers (850,000 viewers).

The Five continued to dominate the week, averaging nearly 3.2 million viewers and 276,000 in the 25-54 demo. In the 6 PM/ET hour, Special Report with Bret Baier notched 2.3 million viewers and 164,000 in the 25-54 demo. During the 7 PM/ET hour, The Ingraham Angle claimed 2.1 million viewers and 141,000 in the 25-54 demo. At 8 PM/ET, Jesse Watters Primetime drew almost 2.7 million viewers and 211,000 in the 25-54 demo. In the 9 PM/ET hour, Hannity secured over 2.2 million viewers and 198,000 viewers in the 25-54 demo.

FNC’s late night hit Gutfeld! (10 PM/ET) commanded the competition across the board, posting more than 2.3 million viewers and 245,000 in the 25-54 demo and outperforming ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! (1.8 million viewers; 241,000 A25-54), NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon (1.3 million viewers; 221,000 A25-54), the airings of CBS' Comics Unleashed (748,000 viewers; 126,000 A25-54), and HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher (437,000 viewers; 67,000 A25-54).

FNC’s daytime programs continued to surpass the broadcast competition. America’s Newsroom (9AM-11AM/ET; 1.6 million viewers), The Faulkner Focus (11AM-12PM/ET; 1.6 million viewers), Outnumbered (12-1PM/ET;1.6 million viewers), America Reports (1PM-3PM/ET; 1,494,000 viewers), The Story with Martha MacCallum (3-4PM/ET; 1.6 million viewers), and The Will Cain Show (4-5 PM/ET; 1.8 million viewers) all outranked ABC’s The View (1,459,000 viewers), ABC’s GMA3 (1,357,000 viewers), NBC’s Today with Jenna & Sheinelle (1.3 million viewers).



On Saturday: Kayleigh McEnany’s Saturday in America (10AM-12PM/ET) led the day with more than 1.3 million viewers. FOX News Live (12-2PM/ET) with Aishah Hasnie and The Big Weekend Show (5-8PM/ET) co-hosted by Tomi Lahren and Johnny Joey Jones both commanded 1.1 million viewers. In primetime, Life, Liberty, & Levin (8-9PM/ET) delivered 931,000 viewers, My View with Lara Trump (9PM/ET) claimed 1 million viewers, and FOX News Saturday Night (10PM-11PM/ET) hosted by Jimmy Failla secured 1.2 million viewers.

On Sunday: The Sunday Briefing (11AM-12PM/ET), anchored this week by Peter Doocy, dominated the weekend with nearly 1.4 million viewers. Sunday Morning Futures (10-11AM/ET), guest-anchored this week by Jason Chaffetz, and FOX News Live (12-2PM/ET), anchored by chief Washington correspondent Mike Emanuel, both posted over 1.3 million viewers. The Big Weekend Show (5-8PM/ET) averaged almost 1.2 million viewers. In primetime, Sunday Night in America with Trey Gowdy (9 PM/ET) saw 1.3 million viewers, Life, Liberty, & Levin (8-9PM/ET) nabbed nearly 1.2 million viewers and One Nation with Brian Kilmeade (10PM/ET) notched almost 1.1 million viewers.
