Roxanna Scott is out as ESPN’s top editor after fewer than 10 months, sources told Front Office Sports. Her SVP and editor-in-chief role was eliminated this week in a reorganization of the network’s news division.
ESPN will adopt a new editorial structure that executives believe will better support its newsgathering needs, a source said. Scott’s departure is not being described as part of a new round of layoffs. An ESPN spokesperson declined to comment.
Scott previously spent years at USA Today and had a brief stint at The Athletic
.The move follows earlier editorial shakeups at ESPN last year, when several editors left amid an investigation into HR complaints. The nature of those complaints was not specified. Former executive editor Cristina Daglas now works in the front office for the Wizards and Mystics. Elizabeth Baugh, who was sidelined during the investigation and was seen as a Daglas ally, left before it concluded and went to Ring magazine. Former NFL editor Heather Burns also departed and later joined USA Today.
