Chicago Radio: WLS-AM To Air More Of Talker John Howell

CUMULUS MEDIA announces that it is bringing more of popular WLS 890 AM talk radio personality John Howell to Chicago radio listeners in 2021 by extending his weekday News/Talk program, “The John Howell Show”, by an hour. Howell has hosted “The John Howell Show” on 890 WLS-AM Monday through Friday from 5pm-7pm since 2018. The show kicks off the new year with a full three hours of live and local News/Talk programming each weekday from 4pm-7pm beginning Monday, January 4th.

Howell previously hosted the 890 WLS-AM morning program, the “Big John and Ramblin Ray Show” from 2014-2018 and has been a daily presence on Chicago radio for more than 30 years. Arriving in 1988 to host mornings at WCKG, Howell spent the next 17 years at WUSN, followed by an eight-year run at WIND. He also hosted a nationally syndicated weekend show for Westwood One from 1998-2006. A native of Holland, MI, Howell graduated from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA.

Stephanie Tichenor, Program Director, 890 WLS-AM, noted: “For 97 years, The Big 89 has been a source of information and entertainment for our Chicagoland audience. And in 2021, 890 WLS-AM is serving up more local programming weekdays for our listeners, with more John Howell who will start an hour earlier at 4pm weekdays. Ben Shapiro remains Howell’s lead-in from 2pm-4pm. Howell’s ability to break down the news of the day while engaging our listeners with his no-nonsense style is what makes his show an audio afternoon delight. We are thrilled to have more Big John in 2021!”

John Howell commented: “With the new year, new administration, new vaccine and new lineup comes new opportunities. I’m happy to have the additional time to serve our listeners and clients. In the age of COVID, it’s best to keep moving.”
