Regis Philbin Joins Fourth Hour of Today

Regis
Regis and Kathie Lee. Also, Hoda. And there’s plenty of wine for everyone. NBC’s Today has named Regis Philbin a contributor to the program’s fourth hour, alongside Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb.

AdWeek reports the news reunites Philbin and Gifford, who co-hosted Live! for 15 years until Gifford left in 2001. Philbin, who turns 84 in August, has been something of a regular presence on Today over the last several months, including starring in Today The Musical. But naming him a contributor formalizes his role at a time when co-host Kotb is spending considerable time filling in for vacationing anchors on the flagship portion of the morning broadcast.

After departing Live!, Gifford was replaced with Kelly Ripa, now host of Live! With Kelly and Michael. It was revealed in March on Kotb’s radio show that Philbin hasn’t seen or talked to Ripa since he left the program in 2011.

Among other career highlights, Philbin has written two memoirs and hosted ABC’s Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, one of the highest rated prime-time game shows in history.

Philbin has 24 Daytime Emmy nominations, six wins and a lifetime achievement award. He has also broken the Guinness World Record for most hours on camera.
