The addition came a week after Carole Caine a 29-year veteran of the station was let go, according to Milwaukee media writer Duane Dudek. (Click Here for original posting)
Michaels has worked at sister station WHQG 102.9 FM reading news and as a fill-in announcer.
Michaels “joins WKLH to handle news … weekday mornings effective immediately.”
Michaels sounded a little tentative during her debut with show host Dave Luczak Monday, interrupting a Summerfest monolog by cast member KB with an anecdote about someone urinating on her at the festival years ago.
Dudek reports there was backlash, on the station’s Facebook and in blog comments, over the departure of Caine as a gender and age based decision.
He adds the morning show went out of its way to emphasize its feminine side Monday.
There was discussion of the USA women’s World Cup victory, on air promotions for announcers Sandy Maxx and Marilyn Mee, and an appearance by WITI-TV (Channel 6) reporter Katrina Cravy.
