Norfolk Radio: PD Talks Morning Show Firings On YouTube

Jimmy Ray and Jen
Jimmy Ray and Jen, former morning show DJs at Country WGH 97.3 FM, have been dismissed as the station looks to “change direction,” the operations manager explained in a video posted on YouTube.

John Shomby took questions from listeners on Tuesday and explained online that “Jimmy Ray and Jen were a great morning show for a great bunch of years,” he says in the video.

According to HamptonRoads.com, Jimmy Ray Dunn confirmed on Monday that he would no longer be with the station: “It's true...no longer mornings at 97.3 The Eagle. #survivor,” according to his Twitter account. His radio partner, Jen Lewis, also seemed to confirm the news on Tuesday on the social media site.

The station plans to conduct a nationwide search for a “live and local morning show,” Shomby said. He does not anticipate a nationally syndicated show to replace the DJ duo, but their replacement could be anyone from a team to a single DJ, he added.

He did not give details about why Dunn and Lewis were dismissed.

Shomby said the handling of their dismissal was a management decision and that Dunn and Lewis had not done anything wrong.

The station is owned by Max Media Radio.
