NOLA Radio: Former Talker Found Guilty of Criminal Mischief

Jennifer Gaubert
Attorney and former radio talk show host Jennifer Gaubert was found guilty Friday of criminal mischief. Prosecutors were seeking a conviction for making false statements, but she was instead convicted on the lesser charge - a misdemeanor.

"As you know, the charge was a felony offense," said District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro. "The judge came back with a lesser charge of a misdemeanor offense. I am satisfied with that."

34-year-old Jennifer Gaubert, a New Orleans lawyer who at one point hosted her own radio show on WGSO 990 AM, had been charged by the Orleans Parish district attorney's office with filing false statements concerning denial of constitutional rights, stemming from her complaint to police that she was filmed without her permission while in a cab in April 2012.

In an August interview, Gaubert said she was intoxicated when she was in the cab. She said she had openly discussed her local notoriety with the cabdriver, which she said made her a target.

Gaubert had been accused of making false statements against cab driver Hervey Farrell, who was booked with extortion after Gaubert said he recorded an explicit video of her and then threatened to make it public if she didn't pay him $60,000. The case hinged on an alleged email threat made to Gaubert by Farrell, but no email was ever produced.

"The judge accepted the fact that she believed she was being extorted, otherwise he would have found her guilty as charged," said Gaubert's attorney, Cameron Mary.

Gaubert's sentencing is set for Feb. 13. Her bond is set at $25,000.
