Temple Student Suspended Over Antisemitic Sign At Barstool In Philly

A Temple University student, identified as Mohammed “Mo” Khan, was suspended after an antisemitic sign reading “F*** the Jews” was displayed at Barstool Sansom Street, a Philadelphia sports bar owned by Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, on Saturday.

The incident occurred when a customer, reportedly Khan, ordered the sign as part of bottle service, and two waitresses complied by holding it up, an act captured in a video that went viral on social media after being reposted by the nonprofit StopAntisemitism.

Temple University President John Fry announced the interim suspension of at least one student on Sunday stating that the Division of Student Affairs was investigating and that any additional students involved could face disciplinary action, including expulsion. Fry condemned antisemitism as “abhorrent” and incompatible with the university’s values.

Dave Portnoy, who is Jewish, reacted with outrage, posting an “emergency press conference” video on X, describing himself as “shaking” with anger. He fired the two waitresses involved for ignoring the bar’s zero-tolerance policy on discrimination and spoke with two men, including Khan, who ordered the sign. Portnoy proposed sending them to Auschwitz for a Holocaust education tour to make the incident a “teaching moment,” hoping to prevent their lives from being “ruined” while emphasizing accountability.

The Philadelphia Police Department and the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) Philadelphia are investigating, with the ADL alerting law enforcement and engaging with bar management. The incident has drawn significant attention amid heightened scrutiny of U.S. universities’ handling of antisemitism, as Temple is one of 60 institutions under investigation by the Department of Education for alleged antisemitic discrimination since March 2025.

Barstool Sansom Street issued a statement apologizing for the “deplorable actions” and acknowledging that staff ignored training and policies.
