Pulitzer Prize Winners To Be Unveiled Monday

The 2025 Pulitzer Prizes will be awarded Monday by The Columbia University, recognizing outstanding achievements in journalism, letters, drama, and music for works created during the 2024 calendar year. 

The announcement will take place at 3:00 p.m. EST and will be live-streamed. The awards, established in 1917 through Joseph Pulitzer’s endowment, honor excellence in 23 categories, with 15 focused on journalism and 8 on books, drama, and music. Winners in most categories receive $15,000 and a certificate, except for the Public Service journalism award, which is given to a news organization and includes a gold medal.

Entries must come from U.S.-based newspapers, magazines, wire services, or news sites, with a submission deadline of January 27, 2025. • Books, Drama, and Music: Six book categories (Fiction, Poetry, General Nonfiction, History, Biography, Memoir/Autobiography), one for drama, and one for music. Eligible works must be by American authors or those with the U.S. as their primary home, published by U.S.-based entities. The book submission deadline for 2024 works was October 15, 2024.

Eligibility and Process: Entries are reviewed for compliance, and works can be submitted in up to two relevant categories. Over 100 jurors, organized into 22 juries, select three nominees per category, and the Pulitzer Prize Board chooses winners by majority vote or may opt not to award a prize. Jurors for books, drama, and music receive honoraria, while journalism jurors are unpaid.
