Local Voice Media has announced its hire of longtime Hampton
Roads radio personality Eric Worden, who will return to his musical roots on Adult Alternative WXTG
102.1FM The Tide.
Local Voice acquired WXTG 102.1FM and 1490AM in July from
Red Zebra Broadcasting, which counts Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder as a
principal investor. The company flipped the format on its FM station to Triple
A, which relies on a playlist that delves deeper than the top 40 hits and
prides itself on being first to bring new artists onto the airwaves. Worden
will host the morning show on 102.1FM The Tide.
“This is a win-win-win for the listeners, the Tide and
Eric. The music of the Tide is Eric's
passion, as anyone who listened to him back when he hosted The Coast knows,” Davis said. “Eric is also the consummate community man,
as emcee and host, benefactor of the arts and charitable organizations, and
probably the best-known ambassador for Hampton Roads. We are thrilled this
incredibly creative person has joined our team.”
Worden, 52, worked his last shift at WNOB-FM 93.7 FM
Wednesday.Worden is making preparations to be on the air with 102.1FM The Tide
within the next two weeks.
Local Voice Media began in Williamsburg and now includes a Triple A
station, 92.3FM The Tide, a classical station, 107.9 BACHfm, an online-only
daily newspaper Williamsburg Yorktown Daily (known by the shorthand
WYDaily.com) and the Save30 Store for discounted gift certificates to local
businesses.
