DC Radio: WTOP’s Jim Farley Planning To Retire

Jim Farley, VP of News & Programming at Hubbard’s newser WTOP103.5 FM has announced  his intention to retire at the end of the year.

WTOP during Farley’s programming watch transitioned from an regional AM-FM simulcast to a top-rated and top billing FM station.  Its news department has won just about every imaginable news award, including nine Edward Murrow Awards during the last two year.

Farley came to WTOP in 1996 after eight years with ABC News in New York as Managing Editor at the ABC Radio Networks.

Prior to that, he spent thirteen years with NBC News (radio and television). He  was also the last NBC News Vice President of Radio News before NBC sold the NBC Radio Networks in 1987. He  started my career at all-news WINS in New York City in 1966, as a  "copy boy."

Farley had taught graduate and undergraduate Journalism courses at NYU and Fordham.

Farley says that he’ll be a consultant for WTOP and its owner, Hubbard Broadcasting.
