WBEB B101, an Audacy station in Philadelphia, raised over $20,000 and collected 560 inches of hair during the 17th Annual Kathy’s Clips Cut-A-Thon to benefit Wigs for Kids, a non-profit that provides custom hair replacement systems to children experiencing medical hair loss.
On August 28, “The Kathy Romano Show” broadcast live from TruBeauty Concepts in Southampton for the annual Cut-A-Thon, encouraging community members to donate their hair in exchange for free haircuts. The event drew 40 donors, including a dedicated supporter who gives every two years and a local family whose three sons returned for their second donation.
“I’m so happy to bring this event to the listeners at B101,” said Romano. “There is something incredibly powerful about taking something you can grow back and turning it into confidence, hope, and a sense of normalcy for a child. Kathy’s Clips is one of my favorite mornings of the entire year. We love seeing the community’s support for this event and are grateful to all the donors.”
Since 1981, Wigs for Kids has provided free, custom, handcrafted hair replacement systems to children experiencing hair loss due to cancer treatments, alopecia, burns, and other medical conditions. The donated hair serves as raw material for the hairpieces, while financial contributions offset manufacturing and long-term care costs.
