Memphis Radio: 3 Men Arrested For Stealing Station's Copper

WGSF Ambiente Radio 1030 AM, Memphis's first Hispanic radio station, was recently knocked off the air due to a copper theft at its transmitter site.

Thieves stole $160,000 worth of copper wiring and components, breaking through a chain-linked fence, cutting underground cables, and damaging the transmitter building. According to the police, someone broke into the building housing the radio transmitter and stole copper cables and components. They also cut the copper wiring running underground to the radio towers.

The station owner, Sergio Butron, discovered the loss after the signal went dead.

Three suspects—(L-R) Kyle Walton (35), Terrence Goodman (32), and Jonathan Yarbrough (52)—were arrested after being caught burning the stolen copper cables nearby.  They face charges of burglary, theft, and tampering with evidence.

Repairs are ongoing, but the station remains off the air, with no clear timeline for resuming broadcasts. The incident has frustrated Butron, who described years of work being "reduced to nothing."
