The American Forces Network (AFN) announced it will reduce its radio programming starting May 1, 2025, to streamline operations, as reported by the Department of Defense.
The cuts include the elimination of AFN Legacy, Freedom Rock, The Blend, and Joe Radio, along with commercially produced podcasts on the AFN Go audio streaming service.
Despite these reductions, AFN will continue to offer top-rated music, entertainment, and news channels through its AFN Go app, and its 24 Eagle radio stations worldwide will keep serving U.S. military communities overseas.
The decision comes as the AFN Go app, which includes video, has seen over 30% audience growth in the past year, with nearly 480,000 hours of radio programming streamed in January 2025 alone.
The free AFN Go app remains a key platform for service members, families, and U.S. government employees stationed abroad. AFN, with an 83-year legacy, emphasizes its role in boosting troop morale, retention, and safety while maintaining its motto, “We Bring You Home.”
