The station will announce its new morning show in the coming days, officials with the radio station said in a news release. Mix 101.5 listeners will continue to hear music, WRAL-TV news, weather and traffic as usual.
Gene & Julie are the current “Large Market Personality of the Year” Marconi Award winners, and they took less than a year to take WRAL mornings to #1 with Women 25-54 and Adults 25-54.
Gene & Julie spent eight successful years at KVIL in Dallas, and prior to that were heard on KIOI in San Francisco, WLTM in Atlanta, KZQZ inSan Francisco, KZLA in Los Angeles and KBFB in Dallas.
Also exiting is Gene & Julie Show producer Casey Tate.
“We will announce our new morning show in the coming days,” the station’s announcement stated. “During the interim, MIX listeners will continue to hear the music, WRAL-TV news and weather, and traffic from Patrick McMahon they depend on.”
No reason was given for the move, reports the News-Observer.
Married co-hosts Gene and Julie Gates began broadcasting on MIX in July 2014. Last year, they won the National Association of Broadcasters’ Marconi Radio Award for “Large Market Personality of the Year.”
“We lost our job at WRAL today, so now we focus on the future and new beginnings,” noted a posting on the show’s Facebook page. “We LOVE radio and are committed to staying in the radio/audio delivery business.”
