iHeartRadio today announced it has surpassed 90 million registered users. The streaming service continues to reach user milestones at a rate faster than Facebook or any other streaming music service, having reached 80 million registered users just seven months ago. The number of registered users do not account for the millions of listeners who tune in to iHeartRadio’s live radio stations, which does not require registration -- meaning that iHeartRadio’s reach is even greater. iHeartRadio has also been downloaded more than a billion times and is now available on 90 unique device platforms spanning in-home entertainment, wearables, gaming, mobile and auto. Additionally, iHeartRadio grew to 84 percent brand awareness among consumers.
Originally launched in 2011, iHeartRadio is a free all-in-one service that offers listeners instant access to thousands of live radio stations from across the country, custom stations from a catalog of more than 30 million songs and one million artists, stations “Perfect For” any mood or occasion, on-demand podcasts and its newest feature "My Favorites Radio" which curates a station based on all of a listener's favorite artists and thumbed up songs. In addition, iHeartRadio has recently introduced new live and custom stations like WeWork’s Work Radio, joined forces with NPR to allow its hundreds of member stations to make their live programming available via iHeartRadio, and expanded its selection of podcast offerings through a partnership with Libsyn.
“Radio continues to evolve -- and so does iHeartRadio. We know our users want to listen to our broad range of content on the device of their choice -- and we also know they want to enjoy amazing stories that have emerged from the recent podcast boom or hear their hometown DJ wherever they travel,” said Darren Davis, President of iHeartRadio. “For those reasons and more, people continue to embrace iHeartRadio, and it’s reflected in the continued rapid growth of our registered user base.”
This milestone announcement marks the latest news in a strong year for iHeartRadio. In addition to record user numbers, iHeartMedia announced an innovative programmatic private marketplace for digital radio. The private marketplace allows select programmatic buyers to access iHeartMedia’s premium radio inventory across its digital properties on iHeartRadio.
