R.I.P.: Andy Smalls, Longtime Chattanooga R/TV Personality

Andy Smalls (1929-2026)
Andy Smalls, better known as "Marshal Andy" or the "Knoxville Cowboy," was a beloved television and radio personality in East Tennessee, particularly associated with Knoxville rather than Chattanooga specifically. He passed away on Sunday morning at his home in Loudon, Tennessee, at the age of 96.

Smalls was best remembered for hosting the long-running public television show "Riders of the Silver Screen" (also associated with programs on East Tennessee PBS), where he introduced classic Western movies and cowboy films in his signature folksy, cowboy persona. The show aired for decades, including on stations like WETP-TV, and he continued until retiring in June 2023. He had an earlier career in radio as well, contributing to his reputation as a regional media figure who promoted country music heritage and entertained generations of viewers with his warm, nostalgic style.

Born on July 29, 1929, in Georgetown, South Carolina, Smalls became a fixture in East Tennessee broadcasting. He was inducted into recognitions like the Cradle of Country Music for his contributions.

He was preceded in death by his wife Kathryn and children Scott and LuAnn. He is survived by his son Drew, among others. His passing has been noted with sadness across local media and communities in East Tennessee, where many remember watching his shows as children, often featuring Roy Rogers and other Western classics.
