RadioFirst, a division of Liggett Communications LLC, will shut down operations on three of its seven radio frequencies starting April 6, 2026, as part of a major realignment to focus on stronger programming and local content.
The affected stations are 1380 AM (WPHM), 1590 AM (WHLX), and 92.7 FM (WHLX). Broadcasting on these will cease entirely.
In the restructuring, the popular Paul Miller Morning Show will relocate from 1380 AM to 1450 AM and 105.5 FM, bringing the WPHM call letters and identity to these new frequencies (replacing the current WHLS calls).
This marks the first time the longtime local talk show will be available on FM in the Port Huron market, potentially expanding its reach.
Following the morning show on the new WPHM signals (1450 AM/105.5 FM), the station will air the Country, Rock, and Folk format previously heard on 92.7 FM for the rest of the day. The WPHM news team will continue delivering local coverage, and the station will remain the broadcast home for Detroit Tigers games.
The Alternative Rock format currently on 1450 AM and 105.5 FM will end.The changes aim to bolster the company's most viable assets amid declining advertiser interest in traditional AM talk programming.
Vice President and General Manager Scott Shigley emphasized that no jobs will be lost. Instead, the move will enable more live local content, better promotion, and higher-quality programming overall."
Quality AM talk programming has continued to decline nationally and provides very little to no demand from local advertisers," Shigley stated. "It only makes sense to focus our energy on our strongest assets and make them even better."
