NYC Radio: Curtis Sliwa Joins The WOR Morning Show

Sliwa and Mendte

iHeartMedia's 710 WOR has announced a major addition to its weekday morning lineup: legendary New York figure Curtis Sliwa will team up with current host Larry Mendte for a new high-energy show, "Curtis Sliwa and Larry Mendte in the Morning." The program launches Monday, March 9, 2026, airing weekdays from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.

This pairing brings together two prominent broadcasters with deep New York roots.

Sliwa, founder of the Guardian Angels and a talk radio staple in the city for more than 35 years, returns to the airwaves full-time after a hiatus following his New York City mayoral campaign. Mendte, a 97-time Emmy Award-winning journalist and veteran TV anchorman who joined WOR in 2023, has been hosting mornings and now gains a dynamic co-host.

Sliwa expressed enthusiasm about the move, noting public demand for his return to radio four months after the election. "It’s been four months since the end of the New York City Mayoral election and most places I go people have asked me to come back to talk radio, so that’s what I’m going to do," he said.

He called WOR "the best radio station in New York City" and highlighted reuniting with longtime friends Mark Simone and Sean Hannity. The announcement marks a full-circle moment for Sliwa, whose first radio appearance came in 1971 as a teenager interviewed by WOR's Arlene Francis.

Mendte welcomed the partnership, calling Sliwa "not only a legendary talk radio host, but an iconic New Yorker." He added, "What an honor to get to team up with him to get New Yorkers started every weekday."

Tom Cuddy, WOR's Program Director, praised the duo's complementary strengths. "Curtis is a true New York original. His passion and knowledge of the city, combined with Larry’s incredible journalistic background, make them the ideal team to wake up New York," Cuddy said. "We are thrilled to have this powerhouse duo leading the morning charge for WOR."

Gracie Award winner and 29-year WOR veteran Natalie Vacca will serve as executive producer for the new morning show.
