NOLA Radio: Personality Gerod Stevens Faces Charges

Gerod Stevens
Long-time NOLA radio personality Gerod Stevens had a loyal following in the New Orleans particularly in the African-American community, according to WDSU-TV.

He hosted a popular morning talk show on WBOK 1230 AM and was known to take on controversial issues in city politics. Last year, the radio station parted ways with Stevens and court documents may shed light on the reasons why.

An arrest warrant was issued for Stevens, who's legal name is Gerald Neely, in October. He was booked Friday on charges of theft of more than $1,500 and forgery.

"In the grand scheme of things compared to other charges, they are not that serious. However there is a maximum possible penalty for both of these of up to 10 years in jail," legal analyst John Fuller said.

The station manager at WBOK contacted authorities after learning that checks intended to pay for radio spots went to Stevens instead, according to court documents. The checks were cashed at a nearby check cashing store, according to court records.

Stevens was released on his own recognizance.
