Shanon Murphy |
Shanon Murphy, known on the air as Psycho Shanon, said Monday she has a brain tumor that is wrapped around her brain stem and cerebellum. The tumor will be surgically removed by the end of 2013.
"There is a mass on my brain that should not be there," Murphy told listeners.
Murphy said doctors believe the tumor is benign and she could have a full recovery if the operation goes well. Murphy asked to postpone any surgery until after the annual Kidd's Kids trip in November.
Murphy was informed about the tumor last week on the day of the Kidd's Kids fundraising drive. The charity was started by Kidd Kraddick, who died from a heart condition in July. This year's trip is the first without the radio host.
Co-host Kellie Rasberry made a reference to Kraddick while discussing Murphy's news.
"We really are like a family," Rasberry said of the bond between the show's audience and hosts. "With the passing of Kidd it's even become more evident that we really are family."
Murphy insisted she would be OK to listeners, but did ask for one thing.
"If you need something to pray about tonight, just throw a little bit of Shannon in there. I would really appreciate it," Murphy said.
