'Dilbert' Creator Scott Adams Discloses Cancer Diagnosis

Cartoonist Scott Adams

Scott Adams, creator of the Dilbert comic strip, which was dropped by most newspapers in 2023 following his controversial remarks labeled as racist, announced on Monday, that he has been diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer, the same condition afflicting former President Joe Biden.

During his YouTube show, Real Coffee with Scott Adams, Adams revealed, “I have the same cancer that Joe Biden has. So, I also have prostate cancer that has also spread to my bones.” He shared the news after expressing sympathy for Biden and his family, following Biden’s public disclosure of his diagnosis on Sunday. Biden noted he is consulting with doctors to explore treatment options.

Adams described living with constant pain, relying on a walker for mobility, and anticipating his death by summer 2025. “It’s basically intolerable,” he said of the pain. He added that the diagnosis has allowed him time to process his condition, say farewells, and organize his affairs.

Dilbert, launched in 1989, was a widely syndicated comic strip that satirized office culture for decades. Its prominence ended abruptly in 2023 after Adams made inflammatory comments on his YouTube show, including calling Black people a “hate group” and declaring he would no longer “help Black Americans.” He later claimed his statements were hyperbolic but stood by his views.

CNN reports the backlash was swift, with numerous U.S. publishers condemning his remarks as racist and discriminatory, and many newspapers promptly ceased carrying Dilbert, effectively ending its widespread distribution.
