Andy Bloom |
The charges stemmed from incidents between January 2022 and July 2023. The jury found Bloom guilty on March 12, 2025, after a nine-day trial, convicting him of:
- Count I: Criminal Sexual Conduct-Contact-Person Under 16 – Significant Relationship – Multiple Acts Over Time.
- Count II: Criminal Sexual Conduct-Contact-Person 14-16 – Position of Authority.
Both charges are second-degree felonies, each carrying a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison and fines between $10,000 and $30,000. Bloom’s sentence requires him to serve approximately two-thirds (six years) in prison, with the remaining third on parole, followed by a 10-year probation period.
He was ordered to undergo a psychosexual evaluation and is currently held without bond in Hennepin County Jail.
The investigation began in July 2023 after Bloom’s daughter reported the abuse, leading to his first court appearance in January 2024. Bloom pleaded not guilty in April 2024. The case, which coincided with divorce proceedings between Bloom and his wife (the victim’s mother), was overseen by three different judges due to reassignments and included disputes over testimony admissibility.
Court documents reveal a recorded jail call from March 16, 2025, where Bloom expressed a lack of remorse, discussing with his brother, Gregg Bloom, plans to ensure his ex-wife and children would not inherit his money, stating, “Let them live in poverty.”A defense motion for probation instead of prison, supported by a 32-page collection of character references from family and former radio colleagues, was denied. The references emphasized Bloom’s professional reputation and personal character but did not dispute the verdict. Prosecutors countered that Bloom’s actions and post-conviction behavior warranted incarceration.
Bloom had a distinguished radio career spanning decades. He served as:
- Operations Manager at CBS Radio in Philadelphia (2007–2015), overseeing SportsRadio 94 WIP-FM and WPHT (1210).
- Program Director at WYSP (94.1) in Philadelphia, where he facilitated the first simulcast of The Howard Stern Show in 1986.
- Vice President of Programming for Emmis Communications’ international division and Greater Media.
- Operations Manager for Entercom’s WCCO, KMNB, and KZJK in Minneapolis-St. Paul, leaving in 2018.
- Communications Director for Rep. Mike Turner (R-OH) for four years.
- Owner of a media consulting firm and contributor to the Philadelphia-based Broad and Liberty website.
Bloom’s conviction sent shockwaves through the radio industry, given his high-profile roles. First reported by Philadelphia’s Crossing Broad, the case drew attention due to Bloom’s prominence in markets like Philadelphia, where he was involved during the competitive “Radio Wars” era between WIP and 97.5 The Fanatic. His departure from WIP in 2015 followed layoffs during a turbulent period for the station.
