Meruelo Media is selling KWHY-TV Los Angeles to the Church of Scientology.
The Church’s Sunset Boulevard Broadcasting Corporation will pay $30 million for KWHY-TV, which currently carries Spanish-language programming.
The deal also includes a channel sharing agreement with Meruelo for Spanish Christian KBEH-TV Garden Grove. KBEH-TV will continue to have access to 50% of the bandwidth on the digital Channel 4 signal shared between KWHY-TV and KBEH-TV.
Additionally, the Church of Scientology will receive the rights to the KWHY call letters and website.
Meruelo Media retains other stations, including Classic Hip Hop 93.5 KDAY, Spanish Rhythmic “Cali 93.9,” Rock 95.5 KLOS, and Hip Hop “Power 106” KPWR in Los Angeles1. KWHY-TV is a Spanish-language independent television station in Los Angeles, owned by Meruelo Broadcasting alongside Garden Grove-licensed KBEH (channel 63). The two stations share RF channel 4 under a channel sharing agreement.
The spin-off comes months after Meruelo Media eliminated the midday positions at its four Los Angeles radio stations.
