A veteran U.S. Secret Service agent who spoke to Fox News Digital on the condition of anonymity called on the leadership at the agency to be fired, dubbing them the “kings of cover-up.”
"The three things that failed us in Butler were lack of communication, which is a leadership issue, lack of personnel, which is a leadership issue, and lack of use of technology, which is also a leadership issue,” the agent said.
The agent defended those who were on the ground on July 13 at former President Trump ill-fated Butler, Pennsylvania rally, adding "the people that need to be fired are the people in leadership."
He added that the USSS is "horrible at retention and horrible at hiring," adding, "We have people on the job capable of doing it, but they want to do things their ignorant ways. There’s a bit of cockiness to it, if you will."
Meanwhile, Tech problems plagued the Secret Service at the rally where a gunman tried to kill Donald Trump, contributing to a major communications breakdown. Acting Director Ronald Rowe cited spotty cellular service, malfunctioning technology and unused equipment.
In addition, no Secret Service agents were inside a command post that local police had set up, some officers communicated using multiple methods, and the radio system was flooded with calls for people needing help in the extreme heat. Officers had spotted Thomas Matthew Crooks and identified him as suspicious about an hour before the shooting, but lost sight of him. When an officer saw him on the roof with a gun, he notified other law-enforcement agencies by radio, but the message never reached Secret Service agents.
Within 30 seconds, Crooks opened fire.
