D-C Radio: WIAD Set For Format Change

The Tommy Show:  Tommy, Kelly and Jen
Radio personality Tommy McFly, the host of WIAD 94.7 Fresh FM’s “The Tommy Show,” was let go  Tuesday, along with four other on-air staffers, as owner Entercom plans as-yet-unannounced changes to the station, according to The Washington Post.

Also gone are: Mid-day host Dana McKay and evening host Britt Water.  PM Drive host Darik Kristofer remains.

Phil Zachary, Entercom senior vice president for the Washington market, confirmed that McFly is out and his show has been canceled. Zachary said the company, will unveil the planned changes to the HotAC station during a Wednesday afternoon webinar for advertisers.

He added that he hopes listeners haven’t heard the last of McFly, who has been dubbed “Washington’s Ryan Seacrest” for his high-energy style and easygoing celebrity interviews. “We’re hoping to use him in a different capacity, but the show as it existed will no longer exist,” he said. “He’s incredibly talented and has a fabulous attitude.”

In the just-released September 2018 PPMs for the market, WIAD continued a downard trend:  3.1 - 2.7 - 2.6. Crosstown competitor Cumulus' WRQX is trending 4.1 - 4.5 - 4.1

McFly, who is a contributor to NBC4 and a frequent host of high-profile events including the White House Easter Egg Roll, couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.

Look for the new format to debut on 94.7 at 5 PM Wednesday.
