FCC: Twenty FMs, Three AMs Silenced By Florence

According to the FCC, 20 FMs have been taken off the air by Hurricane Florence. The number comes from the agency’s Disaster Information Reporting System or DIRS.

In the 99-county area across North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Georgia where DIRS data is being requested by the FCC, the latest count shows 100 FMs and 28 AMs reported being operational. That number is likely significantly much higher across the four-state region, but because DIRS reporting is voluntary, often times not every station that is operating normally checks in with the FCC.
