NYC Radio: Todd Pettengill To Host Benefit Concert

WPLJ 95.5 radio personality Todd Pettengill will host "A Concert for Brendan," to raise proceeds for the Brendan Patrick Tevlin '13  Memorial Field Fund at Seton Hall Preparatory School.

The 19-year-old Tevlin was killed on June 25 in West Orange by armed gunmen. Seton Hall will name the Lacrosse field at Kelly Athletic Center after Tevlin, a place where Brendan's parents, Allison and Mike Tevlin feel connected to him.

The well known New Jersey-based band, The Smithereens, known for hits "A Girl Like You," "Too Much Passion," and "Only a Memory," will headline the concert to be held at the Wellmont Theater in Montclair, located at 5 Seymour Street, from 5:00 - 9:00 pm on Nov. 30, 2014. Other performers will include the The Defending Champions and the Altman Bros. Band.

Three men -- Ali Muhammad Brown, Jeremy Villagran and Eric Williams – have been charged in Tevlin’s killing. Prosecutors have said the three men randomly targeted Tevlin for a robbery before Brown shot him eight times. Brown, who also is accused of killing three other men in Washington state, has told investigators he killed Tevlin as an act of “vengeance” for innocent lives lost in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and Iran.

During a Sept. 10 segment on his radio show, Pettengill said Tevlin’s murder was evidence that “domestic terrorism is already here.”

“It was in fact an act of jihad, perpetrated by a fellow American who sympathized more with those who want to annihilate us than with his own country and its people,” Pettengill said.
