Seattle Radio: Elise Woodward OUT At Sports KJR-AM

Elise Woodward
Elise Woodward, a longtime on-air personality at iHeartMedia's KJR 950 AM sports radio, was fired from her midday show on Friday, according to The Seattle Times.

Woodward co-hosted the program “10@10 with Elise and Jerry” with Seattle Times columnist Jerry Brewer. The program is in the midst of changing direction, with Brewer continuing the two-hour weekday segment from 10 a.m. to noon.

“We appreciate all the contributions that Elise did here during the time with us,” said Rich Moore, KJR’s program director. “We are going forward with a tentative show right now around Jerry Brewer.”

Woodward, who played basketball at Washington, started at KJR in 2002 and began hosting “Elise at Night” in 2008. She first moved to afternoons as a co-host with Mike Gastineau. When Gastineau retired in 2012, KJR moved to the “Elise and Jerry” format.

Woodward has been a sideline reporter for UW football games since 2003 and will remain in the position on KOMO. She is also expected to continue her position as color analyst for UW women’s basketball home games on 1150 AM KKNW.

Woodward declined to comment on the change. A source said the move surprised her and Brewer.

  2. Bottom line; they were boring, uninspiring and not the least bit, entertaining.

  3. Bring back softy at 10 to 12 please, in fact just let mitch and softy do the whole day.

  4. Never liked Jerry. He sounds like a 14 year old kid with a stuffed up nose. He should stick to writing. How about Mitch, Softy, Ian and Gas? Oh yeah, tried that, it worked, the listeners loved it so management nixed it or whatever happened. You can say Gasman retired but forced out was what I heard....

    1. I totally agree - please KJR, remove Jerry, he's awful - can't stand listening to his voice - his awful voice gets in the way of the information he's delivering - i just listen in the morning now since Elise is gone and later in the afternoon - it was great hearing a female on the radio for a change, but pairing her up with Jerry, was really stupid. I enjoyed listening to Gas and Elise in the afternoons. I listen at work pretty much all day, but when Jerry comes on, I turn it to 710, then back to 95 later.

  5. I also thought that Jerry Brewer was the problem, not Elise. This was a big mistake. Give those hours to Ian. I love hard-core football with Ian and Huge Millen (sic). Its the best hour on mid day radio, bar none.

  6. I did not think it was possible to find anyone worse then Elise, but they did with Spike. I agree KJR is not fun to listen to anymore. 710 almost all day for me.Hopefully a new sports station will appear soon.

  7. I never listened to that show, completely boring. And just Jerry is just as boring.

  8. I agree with previous commanders, Elise made that show and not Jerry but I am not gonna knock on the guy, he is a fine writer and I enjoy his columns, he will not last on the air. I cannot listen very long to Mitch's show either as I have a problem with his whiny cohort. KIRO for me from now on..

  9. I always thought Jerry added to the show content but always questioned Elise. I never really liked her show and when she had the evening show I could not understand why anyone would listen. Seemed like a very nice person who will do well in other areas.

  10. Havent listened to KJR in so long I didn't realize Elise was no longer there. I live in Kitsap County and in most areas I drive, KJR's signal is terrible. Couple that with thier boring line up of hosts and it's a wonder they are still on the air. When KIRO switched to 710 ESPN, I found it a refreshing change from KJR. For me, KJR started going down hill when they decided to cut back on the time Groz was on the air. I really enjoyed Groz with Gas. Totally quit listening to KJR when Groz pulled the plug and left.

  11. Good decision KJR to let her go I think there is only one person worse than Elise Woodward it is the Jim Moore at 710AM Go Mitch Furness and Softy!

  12. When I lived in Western Washington, listened to KJR loyally even when 710 switched to a sports format. Then started switching back and forth since I can't stand Dave Mahler. I was happy when Groz left. Now when I travel back to the wrong side of the state, I am listening more and more to 710, changing to 950 when Groz is on. I liked listening to Elise but quit listening when KJR decided to add Brewer. He is horrible, should stick to only print media. Last couple times over tuned into KJR during the time Elise was supposed to be on and heard Brewer and some other guy. Both times listened for a while, wondered where Elise was then switched back to 710, couldn't stand the Brewer and some guy show. So decided to google what happened to Elise. KJR is going down hill probably because of upper management and keeping the wrong people. By the way Brock Huard and Mike Salk suck so still listen when I can to the morning show, but now that is about it when I am traveling west. So many options for KJR to expand their reach by partnering with small Eastern Washington markets, but hasn't happened. Shame

  13. My guess is that when 95.7 FM changed formats and the morning crew left, Spike still had a large contract or lots of time left on contract and I Heart radio had to find a place for him. Not taking over Mitch's spot or Softy or Ian's spot for that matter. Where else could they have put him.

  14. As you read these comments you can see that everyone has their likes and dislikes when it comes to DJ's. I liked Elise and having a female voice in the male dominated industry was a good change up. I have been a loyal KJR fan for at least a decade starting when Mitch had the pizza delivery incident. I find myself listening to 710 more often and I like Brock and Salk in the morning. My only complaint is that I wish they came on at 6 like Mitch's show. Mitch and Fain don't work for me. I can only take so much Mitch and Fain seems like his yes man. I would like to see Sandmeyer come back to the station.

  15. I gave up on kjr like 4 years ago that's freaking Mitch in the morning it's just so irritating The Cleveland Show or JeriShow whatever sucks as well. Softy and the midday show are ok.

  16. I "like" Elise, but didn't like her being the midday host... she seemed like she didn't know what she was doing, and they did really gimmicky things which were pointless.
Jerry isn't much better, even though he's a hell of a columnist. I love Spike though. I didn't at first, but he damn near came unglued talking about the Superbowl, and I love that passion.
    softy sucks
mitch sucks (but he is hands down the best interviewer on most stations, not just sports)
Ian... cool. Show needs a permanent Hugh Millen.
    Groz sucked completely
    Gas sucked completely
Hot shot Scott was great, and was let go.
And I heard some new guy is coming from AZ. Gee, I can't wait to hear this crap fest! Ugh

  17. I (barely) listen to Mitch but it's only because I can't take 710's insufferable morning show. It's like nails on a chalkboard to me.
Elise will find something else, I think she does the the husky games doesn't she?
KJR has one acute bug that drives me crazy though... for all the sports we have, and one or two we dont... they won't even "talk" about the Sounders. Mitch especially goes on endlessly about golf, but dismisses out out of hand the 2nd most popular sport behind the Seahawks. Drives me nuts!!
I hope KJR pulls it's head out soon.

  18. I've always liked Elise and thought she had the perfect combination of femininity and bourbon shot drinking contest for a sports show. She is also very credible as an athlete and has local roots and a connection to the UW. Sometimes I wonder what others want in a sports show. I, for one, liked Elise's show and would not be surprised if we find her back in a prominent slot in the future

  19. Ian's show is the only show that I listen to on KJR now. I did listen to Elise and Jerry and wish that Brian Abcare(sp) had his own show
