Clay Travis Offers Colin Kaepernick $2M For Interview

Clay Travis has publicly offered Colin Kaepernick $2 million for a one-hour, no-questions-off-limits interview. The challenge was issued Friday on The Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show, first as $1 million for 30 minutes and then doubled on air. 

Travis later framed the money as going to a mutually agreed charity, not to Kaepernick personally, and ruled out groups such as Black Lives Matter. There is no public sign that Kaepernick has accepted. 

“If I could pick one person to be able to do a sit-down interview with, it would be Colin Kaepernick,” Travis said. He predicted that half an hour with him would end Kaepernick’s role as a sports-and-politics spokesman. The terms he laid out were blunt: any question he deemed fit, answers required, one hour, $2 million. He did not specify whether the interview would air on his radio show, OutKick, or another platform. 

The offer grew out of Kaepernick’s latest media tour. Promoting his memoir The Perilous Fight, the former 49ers quarterback again compared the NFL Scouting Combine to a slave auction. On Ryan Clark’s Pivot podcast, Clark asked when Kaepernick first saw the parallel. Kaepernick described being told to strip to compression shorts, called the process a “meat market,” and said he lacked that historical frame when he went through the combine in 2011. 

He has made a similar argument since the 2021 Netflix series Colin in Black & White and repeats it in the book. 

Travis and Sexton had already attacked that analogy earlier in the week. Their case is that the combine is a voluntary job interview for multimillion-dollar contracts, not bondage. Prospects choose to attend. Teams measure speed, strength and medical risk because the product is physical labor sold at the top of the market. Equating that with slavery, Travis said, is “dumb” and an insult to anyone who knows what forced labor actually was. 

Kaepernick has not answered the $2 million challenge.
