Savannah Guthrie to Tape ‘Wordle’ Game Show


Savannah Guthrie announced on the Thursday, July 16 episode of Today that she will temporarily leave her co-anchor duties to film a new game show adaptation of Wordle. The 54-year-old host said she will be off for the next “few weeks” while the entire season is shot.

“We’re about to do it. Guys, I’m headed over to shoot Wordle over the next few weeks,” Guthrie confirmed during the broadcast. 

“We’re going to shoot the whole season and we’re super excited.” 



She added that the show, executive produced by Jimmy Fallon, is expected to air in the new year. “I can’t wait for everyone to see it.”

Her Today colleagues reacted enthusiastically. Carson Daly said he “can’t wait,” while Sheinelle Jones called the project “full circle,” recalling how the Today show became obsessed with the viral word game when it first exploded in popularity.

Guthrie and Fallon first revealed the Wordle game show on May 11. Fallon described it as a long-in-development project with The New York Times, saying, “We’ve been developing Wordle as a game show for the past two-and-a-half years... and it’s official: We are making Wordle Game Show with our host, Savannah Guthrie!”Guthrie added at the time, “We’ve been holding this secret between us for a long time now. And we’re going to make Wordle a game show.”

Today confirmed on Instagram that Guthrie will be “off for a few weeks” to film the project.
