Howard Stern has laid off approximately a dozen staffers from his SiriusXM show as he shifts to producing just one new episode per week after Labor Day, according to sources.
The radio personality informed staff of the cuts during a Zoom call on Monday. He plans to retain a core team of veteran producers while filling remaining airtime with material from his extensive archives.
Affected employees were sent home immediately and will receive severance packages based on their tenure with the network. The move comes after months of speculation about Stern’s future. In December 2025, he signed a new three-year contract that he described as giving him greater “flexibility.”
On his show at the time, Stern said, “I am happy to announce that I have figured out a way to have it all.”A source close to the situation told Page Six that Stern “just doesn’t need that much content anymore” with the reduced schedule.
Stern’s previous five-year deal with SiriusXM was reportedly worth $500 million.
The staff reductions follow a similar disruption last year. On Labor Day evening 2025, Stern told his team he would not return to the air as scheduled, sparking a media frenzy. He later cited frustration with ongoing contract negotiations as the reason for skipping episodes.
The latest changes continue a pattern of scaling back: Stern has gradually reduced from a daily show to fewer episodes and shifted to more remote production in recent years. The single weekly new show is expected to begin after his current summer break.
