Monthly Ratings : FNC Leads ABC, NBC and CBS in Weekday Prime


FOX News Channel (FNC) continued to exert its dominance in all of television for the month of July with 2.6 million weekday primetime viewers leading NBC (2.5 million viewers), ABC (2.3 million viewers) and CBS (1.9 million viewers). 

Additionally, FNC nabbed 2,332,000 primetime viewers from Monday-Sunday, leading ABC (2,292,000 viewers) and CBS (1,991,000) viewers. Across total day, FNC drew over 1.5 million viewers and commanded nearly 60% of the cable news share with viewers across total day and primetime while continuing to defeat CNN and MS NOW combined. Delivering the top 133 cable news telecasts, FNC saw month-over-month increases across the board powered by its America 250 coverage. The network was also number one in cable with Asians, Hispanics and upscale viewers throughout weekday total day during the month. Meanwhile, CBS saw a number of historic lows throughout the month, while FOX & Friends and Special Report continued to close the gap with CBS.


In July, CBS and ABC delivered historic lows, with CBS posted its lowest-rated primetime month dating back to 1992 with just 1,991,000 viewers. CBS Evening News produced the show’s worst month since Tony Dokoupil took over with 3.8 million viewers, while CBS Mornings drew its worst month in history with 1.6 million viewers and 240,000 in the 25-54 demo. ABC saw its worst primetime month dating back to 1992 with 391,000 in the 25-54 demo.



FNC’s number one program The Five secured 3.3 million viewers and 300,000 in the 25-54 demo, leading all of cable news across the board. The Five also surpassed broadcast programs including CBS’ Big Brother (3.2 million viewers) and NBC’s Sunday Night Baseball (2.8 million viewers). At 8 PM/ET Jesse Watters Primetime led primetime, commanding 3 million viewers and 267,000 in the 25-54 demo.

FNC’s Hannity remained number one at 9 PM/ET with 2.6 million viewers and 238,000 in the 25-54 demo, easily surpassing the competition including MS NOW’s Monday airing of The Rachel Maddow Show (2 million viewers; 173,000 A25-54). Hannity also led key broadcast shows including ABC’s The View (2.5 million viewers) and NBC’s Meet the Press (2.4 million viewers). At 7 PM/ET, The Ingraham Angle posted 2.4 million viewers and 206,000 in the 25-54 demo, with Laura Ingraham continuing her reign as the highest rated woman in cable news. FOX News @ Night with Trace Gallagher drew 1.5 million viewers at 11 PM/ET.


FNC’s hit late-night program Gutfeld! continued to crush the late-night television competition, notching 2.6 million viewers and 249,000 in the 25-54 demo. The program overtook ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! (1.6 million viewers), NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon (1.4 million viewers), Late Night with Seth Meyers (790,000 viewers) and airings of CBS’ Comics Unleashed (764,000 viewers).

The network’s nightly newscast Special Report with Bret Baier (6 PM/ET) averaged 2.5 million viewers and 224,000 in the 25-54 demo, continuing to close the gap with the broadcast competition. In July, Special Report led CBS Evening News in 15 top markets across the country including New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia. The show also beat ABC’s World News Tonight in New Orleans and Memphis.



FNC’s signature morning show FOX & Friends (6-9 AM/ET) finished the month with 1.3 million viewers and 124,000 in the demo and remained the number one cable news program in the mornings with both categories for 65 consecutive months, beating CNN and MS NOW combined in viewers. FOX & Friends continued to make gains on CBS Mornings, which saw its lowest rated month in program history, besting the broadcast show in 23 major markets throughout July including New York, Chicago, Dallas, Philadelphia, Atlanta and Washington DC. The program also outpaced ABC’s Good Morning America in 14 markets including Washington DC, Tampa, St. Louis and Baltimore and defeated NBC’s The Today Show in Atlanta, Tampa, Charlotte, Jacksonville and Tulsa, Oklahoma during July. FOX & Friends First (5-6 AM/ET) averaged 514,000 viewers.


FNC’s daytime lineup continued to crush the competition, led by its two-hour morning news program America’s Newsroom with Bill Hemmer and Dana Perino (9-11 AM/ET), which saw 1.8 million viewers. The Faulkner Focus at 11 AM/ET notched 1.7 million viewers and at 12 PM/ET, Outnumbered earned 1.8 million viewers. America Reports with John Roberts and Sandra Smith (1-3 PM/ET) garnered 1.6 million viewers, while Martha MacCallum’s The Story averaged 1.7 million viewers. At 4 PM/ET, The Will Cain Show continued to grow the timeslot with 2 million viewers. Every single FNC daytime show between 9 AM–5 PM/ET led NBC News Daily (1.6 million viewers), ABC’s GMA3 (1.5 million viewers) and NBC’s Kelly Clarkson Show (938,000 viewers).



FNC’s weekend programming also continued to excel against the competition, winning every hour with total viewers and 25-54 demo, defeating CNN and MS NOW by double to triple-digits among both categories on both days. 

On Saturdays: Kayleigh McEnany’s Saturday in America (10 AM-12 PM/ET) was the most watched show on cable news of the day, drawing over 1.6 million viewers. FOX News Live (12-2 PM/ET) delivered 1.4 million viewers. FOX News Saturday Night with Jimmy Failla (10 PM/ET) was the top show in primetime with 1,220,000 viewers followed by 1,187,000 viewers for Life, Liberty & Levin (8 PM/ET) and My View with Lara Trump (9 PM/ET) with 1,116,000 viewers.

On Sundays:  FNC’s Sunday Morning Futures at 10 AM/ET earned the spot as top-rated show of the weekend, garnering 1.7 million viewers. The Big Weekend Show (5-8 PM/ET) and Sunday Night in America (9 PM/ET) followed with 1.5 million viewers. The Sunday Briefing (11 AM/ET), with rotating co-anchors Peter Doocy and Jacqui Heinrich drew 1.4 million viewers, while Life, Liberty & Levin (8 PM/ET), FOX & Friends Weekend (6-10 AM/ET) and One Nation with Brian Kilmeade (10 PM/ET) each drew 1.3 million viewers.
