The WNET Group in New York City is expanding its radio portfolio with the acquisition of WEER-FM in Montauk, N.Y.
WNET signed an agreement this month to purchase the station for $100,000 from Eastern Tower Corp., according to the asset purchase agreement. The station broadcasts on 88.7 FM.
In a statement, WNET said it “looks forward to providing its award-winning radio programming to Eastern Long Island. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval and we anticipate it will close in the second quarter.”

In 2020, WNET purchased WPPB, another radio station in Eastern Long Island. Now known as WLIW, the Southampton NPR station airs a mix of news and music. It doesn’t reach as far east as Montauk, according to an FCC contour map.
