Wake-Up Call: Gay Club Patrons Subdue Deadly Shooter


At least five people are dead, and more than two dozen injured after a 22-year-old gunman entered an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado Springs, Colorado before being stopped by two patrons. The gunman, Anderson Lee Aldrich is in protective custody at a local hospital for unknown injuries, he was also previously arrested for making a bomb threat in June 2021.


House Speaker Nancy Pelosi marked Transgender Remembrance Day by tearing into MAGA Republicans and implicating them in the Colorado LBGTQ night club shooting that left five dead. Five 'As our nation marks Transgender Day of Remembrance, the House Democratic Caucus mourns the countless Americans stolen away by the scourge of transphobic violence, a crisis that continues to disproportionately harm trans people of color,' Pelosi said in a statement. She went on: 'That fight remains more urgent than ever, as right-wing extremists target transgender Americans' most fundamental rights and freedoms. Whether spouting dangerous rhetoric from cable news desks or openly bullying schoolchildren from the halls of power, MAGA Republicans are cruelly undermining the safety and well-being of our transgender community.'

🏂NATIONAL GUARD ACTIVATED AMID DEADLY SNOW STORM IN WESTERN NEW YORK: New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the activation of the National Guard Saturday to help with clean up in the historic and deadly snow storm that battered parts of western New York. Erie County received the brunt of the snowfall, where two men died on Friday after suffering “cardiac events” due to shoveling or snow blowing. In Orchard Park, southeast of Buffalo, almost 6 1/2 feet of snow had fallen by 7a.m.  Three warming centers were opened in Buffalo on Saturday where residents without power were able to seek shelter.


➤GIRL KILLED IN NORTH CAROLINA PARADE FLOAT CRASH: A girl died over the weekend after she was struck by a vehicle towing a float for a holiday parade in North Carolina. The driver who lost control of the vehicle and struck the child was arrested and charged with reckless driving and other offenses. The girl struck by the truck was part of a dance troupe participating in the holiday parade.


📱AMAZON TO END SPECIAL ALEXA FEATURE ON SOME ANDROID PHONES: Amazon informed its Alexa customers who use Alexa Built-In phones that it was going to discontinue the use of hands-free capability. As of March 31, 2023, the feature will no longer be supported by Amazon. While this feature’s demise will likely upset some customers, the Alexa feature in phones will still work, but only when the app is open on the phone.


➤DONALD TRUMP'S TWITTER ACCOUNT IS REINSTATED, ENDING LIFETIME BAN: Former US President Donald Trump had his Twitter account reinstated over the weekend. However, Trump posted on Truth Social, a social media service he has used since receiving a lifetime ban on Twitter in January 2021, that he would not be switching back over. Twitter owner Elon Musk posted a poll on Friday night on the platform asking users if Trump should be reinstated. The final poll results on Saturday night showed 51.8% in favor and 48.2% opposed. The poll included 15 million votes.



🦻APPLE AIRPODS CAN WORK AS GOOD AS EXPENSIVE HEARING AIDS: A new study published in the journal iScience revealed that Apple's AirPods Pro earbuds can potentially act as hearing aids for adults with mild to moderate hearing loss. The study was conducted by researchers from the Taipei Veterans General Hospital in Taiwan.  Experts looked at 21 participants with mild to moderate hearing loss and tested a variety of hearing aids. These included premium and basic hearing aids and AirPods Pro earbuds and Airpods 2. The researchers found that the AirPods 2 performed similarly well to basic hearing aids in quiet environments.

⚽U.S. TYLER ADAMS NAMED USMNT CAPTAIN IN HISTORIC FIRST: Tyler Adams will captain the US men’s national team into the 2022 FIFA World Cup, head coach Gregg Berhalter announced on the eve of Monday’s Group B opener vs. Wales. When he does, he’ll be the youngest captain at this World Cup, and the first Black man to captain the U.S. throughout any World Cup.

⚽HOST TEAM LOSES OPENING GAME FOR THE FIRST TIME AT A WORLD CUP: The controversy-laced World Cup tournament opened Sunday with the 2019 Asian Cup champions, Qatar, getting outplayed in a 2-0 loss to Ecuador. Qatar makes history as first host nation to lose opening World Cup game.

🏀 SIXERS TYRESE MAXEY TO MISS 3-4 WEEKS WITH FOOT FRACTURE:
Philadelphia 76ers star Tyrese Maxey suffered a small fracture in his left foot during Friday night's 110-102 win over the Milwaukee Bucks that will cause him to miss the next three to four weeks. After X-rays came back negative Friday, an MRI Saturday revealed the extent of Maxey's injury.

🏈TENNESSEE LOSES HEISMAN CANDIDATE QB HENDON: Tennessee quarterback Hendon Hooker tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during Saturday's 63-38 loss to South Carolina and will miss the remainder of the season. Hooker, a 24-year-old senior, was one of the favorites for the Heisman Trophy for much of this season. He suffered the non-contact injury while rolling left on an option play, and his leg seemed to get stuck in the turf at Williams-Brice Stadium.

🏀KYRIE IRVING ELIGIBLE TO REJOIN NETS AFTER 8 GAME BAN: Kyrie Irving, who was suspended since November 3rd, rejoined his Nets teammates over the weekend after missing nearly a month after posting a link to a controversial movie. 30-year-old Irving was at Nets shootaround Sunday morning, hours before Brooklyn played the Grizzlies and he once again told reporters he wasn't antisemitic. "I don’t stand for anything close to hate speech or antisemitism or anything that is going against the human race" Irving said.
