The station was honored among all Missouri radio stations for excellence in delivering community-centered programming through broadcast time used to benefit the community, station resources used to benefit the community, and individual involvement in the community by the station’s on-air talent. News-Talk 1400 KFRU was presented with the award at the Missouri Broadcasters Association’s 2015 Annual Convention and Awards Banquet earlier this month.
This is the second honor that KFRU will receive this year, as it celebrates its 90th birthday.
The Boone County Historical Society recently announced that the station will be inducted into the Boone County Historical Hall of Fame on October 8. KFRU, the oldest radio station in central Missouri, began broadcasting from the Stephens College Campus on October 7, 1925.
For 90 years, KFRU has brought generations of listeners critical news and information—and was the first station ever to broadcast a Missouri Tigers football game. The station has a long history of supporting the community through its programming, philanthropic sponsorships and community service efforts.

Chris Kellogg, Operations Manager for Cumulus Columbia-Jefferson City said: "KFRU’s dedication to the community runs deep, and it is an incredible honor to be recognized among all the radio stations in Missouri. The relationship between the radio station and the community goes both ways. So thank you to our dedicated KRFU listeners and friends for 90 incredible years."
KFRU’s weekday programming lineup includes: Columbia Morning with David Lile, The Morning Meeting with Simon Rose and Renee Hulshof, The Rush Limbaugh Show, The Jonathan Brandmeier Show, The Closers with George Young and Bryan Fulcher, The Mark Levin Show, and The Jim Bohannon Show.
