Houston native Gerardo Sproet has joined Brenham-based country station KTEX 106.1 as its new afternoon host. He will be heard weekdays from 2 to 6 p.m. on the station, which reaches listeners across 12 counties between Houston and Austin.
The move marks Sproet’s return to the air nearly six months after his unexpected departure from Houston’s 93Q Country (KKBQ) in April. His new program director is “Cowboy Dave” Bayless, who spent 12 years at Houston country station 100.3 The Bull (KILT), where he co-hosted the morning show before leaving in 2021.

Sproet spent his entire radio career at 93Q, starting in the promotions department in 2019, moving to an on-air role in 2022, becoming evening host in July 2023, and taking over the full-time midday show in January 2025. His abrupt exit left longtime listeners stunned; the station quickly began searching for a replacement, and fans flooded his Facebook page with messages of disappointment.
While at 93Q, Sproet was part of station teams that earned an Academy of Country Music Award in 2023 and a Country Music Association Award in 2025. He also helped raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, including a livestream with local musicians that generated more than $15,000.
KTEX was named Small Market Radio Station of the Year at the 2026 Texas Regional Radio and Music Awards in March.
