Kirk Minihane said Wednesday he does not expect Barstool Sports to re-sign him when his contract expires next fall, and he plans major changes to his show when it returns full-time in January.
The longtime host, who joined Barstool in 2019 after leaving WEEI, made the comments during an extended update on the podcast for The Kirk Minihane Show. “I would love to stay here, but I don’t think I’ll get re-signed,” Minihane said. “My gut tells me no. I could be wrong… but I don’t think I’ll get re-signed.” He added that he has not begun contract discussions with the company and does not expect talks to start until February or March.

He has gradually resumed the Boston-based show and recently announced plans to return to a full-time schedule in January. On Wednesday he also said he intends to overhaul the cast and cut ties with several side shows and characters that emerged around the program during his absence.
He specifically criticized some regulars and associated personalities for “grifting,” saying that when the show returns in January, certain figures will not be allowed on unless they end their independent side projects. “I’m cleaning the show up before January starts,” Minihane said. “I’m getting rid of this sh*t.” He even suggested he might ban some of them from listening.
Minihane stressed he has no plans to retire and said he would pursue other work if he leaves Barstool. He noted that past contract negotiations with the company have been brief, adding that he could potentially get a quick answer from Dave Portnoy. Barstool has not publicly commented on his status.
