Who's The Bad Guy? Dolly's Sisters Insist 'No Family Feud'

A Tennessee court has barred Dolly Parton’s nephew from her business operations after her manager’s company accused him of threats and demands for money — while family members insist there is no inheritance fight and a source claims the manager wants relatives sidelined. 

She’s Alive LLC, the entity Parton created to protect her brand after death and run by longtime manager Danny Nozell, obtained a temporary restraining order this week against Bryan Seaver. A Nashville chancellor ordered Seaver to stay at least 1,000 feet from estate employees and partners, stay off estate property, and stop alleged harassment ahead of an Oct. 7 hearing. 

Court filings say Seaver, Parton’s head of security for more than 20 years and the relative who announced her Aug. 25 death at age 80, mounted a campaign of intimidation that began weeks before she died of cancer. 

The company alleges he threatened to “destroy the entire brand,” start a podcast to ruin partnerships unless paid, and invoked a military-contractor background, weapons access, and statements such as “I’m a killer” and “All I do is warfare.” Some employees reportedly quit or feared coming to work. The estate values the empire — Dollywood, hotels, catalog, and other holdings — at about $450 million. 

Seaver was fired from the security role shortly before the lawsuit. He has said comments were taken out of context during grief, described some exchanges as private “rage talk” with a man he considered a friend, and noted Nozell had nicknamed him “The Killer.” He called the restraining-order effort a publicity stunt and said a service agreement with his company was abruptly ended. His interest in the DP Dean Trust was described as remaining intact after the firing. 

Parton’s sisters Freida and Stella have publicly denied a family feud. Freida wrote that no one in the Parton/Owens family is fighting over the estate and that “we all love Bryan.” 

A Page Six source alleged Nozell wants the family “out of the picture” and to turn Parton’s house into a Graceland-style attraction, saying he lacked the late singer’s “heart” even if the two formed a strong business team. 

Seaver is the son of Parton’s sister Cassie and took over security from his father. Parton personally asked him years earlier to deliver the death announcement. The legal fight is between the manager-controlled legacy company and the former security chief, not a court-declared battle among blood relatives over the will itself. 

A fuller hearing is set for early October.
