Podcaster Megyn Kelly, a SiriusXM host and former Fox News anchor, has accused CBS's 60 Minutes of employing "deceptive edits" in its Sunday interview with Pete Hegseth, the U.S. Secretary of War, to reframe the discussion and portray Israel's involvement in recent U.S.-led strikes on Iran more favorably.
Kelly claimed the edits were motivated by the "pro-Israel" stance of Bari Weiss, the editor-in-chief of CBS News, whom she described as an "ardent Israel activist" aiming to run a network that aligns with those views.
The controversy centers on a segment where 60 Minutes correspondent Major Garrett interviewed Hegseth about the February 28, 2026, joint U.S.-Israeli military actions against Iran. In the aired version, a voiceover introduced Hegseth's response as addressing critics who questioned Israel's influence on the strikes, making it appear as though the question and answer focused on Israel and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's role.
However, according to the full unedited 26-minute transcript released by CBS, Garrett's original question was about broader "America First" critics accusing the strikes of not prioritizing U.S. interests, with no mention of Israel in that specific exchange. The Israel-related question actually occurred about three minutes later in the conversation.
Kelly highlighted this on her show, calling the edits "fcking bllshit" and arguing they misled viewers by "inserting Israel into a Q&A that never mentioned it in the first place." She suggested the changes were designed to "rehabilitate" Israel's image amid ongoing debates over the war, tying it directly to Weiss's influence and alleging CBS has shifted toward a pro-Israel bias under her leadership.
