The FCC’s Enforcement and Media Bureaus reached a consent decree with Sinclair Broadcastingto settle investigations into station license renewals, closed captioning violations, and children’s programming regulations. Sinclair agreed to pay a $500,000 penalty and implement a two-year compliance plan without admitting to FCC rule violations.
The decree addresses a forfeiture order for exceeding commercial limits in children’s programming. In September, the FCC fined 19 station groups, including Sinclair ($2.652 million), for similar violations.
The settlement also resolves issues with untimely uploads of public inspection files, a late license renewal for K33MJ-D in Pahrump, Nevada, and closed captioning failures at WUHF in Rochester, New York.
Sinclair expressed appreciation for the FCC’s efforts and satisfaction with the resolution, emphasizing its commitment to local journalism and community service.
